The Official Launch of Storytime Lane and "Betty the Yeti's Disappointing Day"- 27th o
What a whirlwind! Such a magical day with a magical community. We were incredibly excited and moved by the large number of people that came to support us in our new endeavour and the launch of our very first picture book "Betty the Yeti's Disappointing Day". To be honest, there were a lot of nerves.... A LOT. But, thankfully all went well (aside from a few technological glitches that didn't overly impede the success of the day). We even had NBN News come and interview us for a piece that aired later that night! Emily in particular found this quite daunting, but thankfully the final edit did us both proud.
Emily rapped her thank you speech, "Gangsta Style", and Graham had some lovely words to say (and got a little teary...but managed to hold it together very well).
Then it was the time for the Grand Premiere of the storytelling video for "Betty the Yeti's Disappointing Day". The hush in the room was immediate, and the whole room watched as the magical Aunty Em blew magic dust to make the book appear!
Following the amazing entertainment that was the storytelling video, Aunty Em made and ACTUAL APPEARANCE! She strolled through the door, playing a ukulele, amazing and delighting both young and old....(at least that's what we told her). Both children and adults alike lined up to meet her and have photos with her, as well as get their books signed. Graham was also inundated with people wanting his oh-so-special autograph. Surprisingly, Emily S. Smith the author was nowhere to be found.... To this day her whereabouts at the time of the launch remain a mystery....
Of course there was art and craft, as all good picture book launches should have, and we were amazed at the talent and the skills of the children (and adults) who created their own yetis and ice houses out of playdough, coloured in pages from the book, and create fluffy Betty face masks.
All in all, we couldn't be happier with the day. Thank you to the people of Newcastle and the Central Coast for all of your love and support.
